Taking a leisurely nine hour boat ride gave me the time to think about Kevin Costner's Waterworld. After all, the Cambodians on this river live in "floating villages," or house boats that contain all of their belongings. Without much dry land, they're at the mercy of the river. So, let the comparison begin.
Unlike Waterworld, there is some dry land, and these people take advantage of it, whereas in Mr. Costner's "movie," you only see dry land at the end, and by then nothing in your life really matters anymore.
Like Waterworld, the people of the floating villages have pretty awesome nets--however, they actually catch things like shell fish, whereas the people of Waterworld apparently eat cigarettes....
Like Waterworld, when our boat got caught in these endless plants, we went nowhere for nearly three hours.
Unlike Waterworld, I really enjoyed seeing the floating villages, whereas Waterworld sucked.
