Kuala Selangor, a scant 60 kilometers from Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, is famous for its fireflies. These beautiful creatures light up the mangrove forests (my favorite kind) at dusk. A new friend of mine, "Noosh,"' an Iranian girl working for the UN in Kabul, and I took a two hour bus to Kuala Selangor and took a boat to see the famed fireflies.
They were gorgeous.
Lighting up the bushes like Xmas trees.
Truly memorable.
In the silence.
Unforgettable.
Unfortunately, it's freaking IMPOSSIBLE to photograph them, and so, dear readers, I bring you....
